The BURPEE : A Bodyweight Masterpeice

A burpee is a full-body exercise that combines a squat, plank, push-up, and jump into one fluid movement. It's a high-intensity exercise known for its ability to quickly raise the heart rate and burn calories. When performed correctly, The Burpee is a bodyweight masterpiece because of it's full-body load.  When performed incorrectly is can be a nightmare for exercisers who can hurt their shoulders, wrist, knees or back.

Here's a breakdown of the steps involved in a burpee:
1. Start in a squat position: Feet shoulder-width apart, hands on the floor in front of you.
2. Kick back to plank: Jump your feet back, extending your body into a straight line from head to heels (plank position).
3. Lower into a push-up (optional): You can modify the burpee by adding a push-up from the plank position.
4. Jump feet back to squat: Bring your feet back to the squat position, landing between your hands.
5. Jump up: Explode upwards, extending your body fully, and optionally reaching your arms overhead.
6. Return to starting position: Land softly and repeat the sequence.

Burpees are a versatile exercise that can be modified to suit different fitness levels. Beginners can modify the exercise by stepping back instead of jumping, or by omitting the push-up. More advanced individuals can add variations like a jump over an object or a hand release. Listen in as the team from Fettle Fitness Education breaks down the science and safety behind the exercise as well as the many modifications exercisers can use to avoid injury.
